Friday Night Horrorshow: The Most Dangerous Game

I’ve watched a few horror movies this week and they were just kinda meh. My favorite was the 1932 film The Most Dangerous Game:

It makes sense that I would enjoy this movie considering my love for Lord of the Flies/Battle Royale desert island-type stories. I remember having to read the short story in high school and blowing it off half way through and then regretting not reading it when I found out how creepy it was. One of my favorite things about this film is that it’s only 63 minutes which is the perfect length for this story. This film shares much with King Kong, everything from the sets to the lead female actress (Fay Wray). Definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of classic horror.
Another film I finally got around to seeing this week was Dark Water. I saw the original Japanese version a while back and thought it was pretty creepy so I thought I’d give the American version a shot since the trailer looked decent. Well… all I have to say is that I’m kinda sick of American adaptations of J-horror sucking so much. I feel like they always dumb things down and have rational explanations in the remakes for the strange happenings because American’s can’t accept that maybe a apartment is just haunted and it’s not some elaborate conspiracy that your ex-husband is behind to make you appear crazy in front of a judge so he can gain custody of his 6 year old brat. Overall don’t waste your time on the remake, check out the original film or maybe even look at the original short story or manga adaptation. If you’re a fan of Jennifer Connelly or rooms submerged in water, then check out the pretty movie posters or some pretty Gregory Crewdson photographs, they’re better than the movie, trust me:
